Hilton Opera Hanoi is a landmark in the city of Hanoi. Completed in the 1980's the property enjoys the location next to the historic Hanoi Opera House. The Hilton operated hotel required improvements and refurbishments. AFW's scope was to develop the internal space planning and to develop the external architecture to integrate the new requirements. The design 'turned' the hotel to address the Opera House enabling the main entrance to address the Opera House and the F&B outlets to provide views across to its historic neighbour.
The extension to the hotel is in the form of a conservatory with the dia-grid lattice glazing and curved form offering a contemporary contrast to the neo-classic colonial styled hotel building.
The project involved a complete renovation with the aim of maximizing the potential of its location and illustrious neighbor, the Opera House.
Arrival, retail and dining facilities are significantly expanded and improved with the intervention of a dramatic dia-grid glazed dining structure taking advantage of the views of the Opera House.
The language of the dia-grid structure, derived from the European conservatories of the 18th and 19th Centuries with the form taking reference from the may tre dan, woven baskets of northern Vietnam.
